What’s Next? Navigating the Crossroads of Growth

In our ongoing conversations with founders, we often hear stories that, despite their uniqueness, share common themes of challenge and decision:

"I launched my SaaS business four years ago, drawing on first hand experience in an industry ripe for innovation. Despite the dominant players having solid market shares, they lacked the dynamism I envisioned. This gap inspired me to start something new and impactful. Our company has achieved remarkable growth—doubling our revenue year after year. Two years into our journey, we welcomed venture capital funding. It was an exciting step, fuelled by favourable terms and promising prospects. However, the pressure to scale rapidly and meet escalating expectations soon became a daunting reality. Now, four years in, we're growing robustly, yet not fast enough in the eyes of our VC partners who envision us as the next unicorn. The joy from those early days has given way to fatigue, particularly during pressure-packed board meetings. This year, I've pivoted our focus toward profitability—a goal we're set to achieve. But, the looming question remains: what’s next?"

At this pivotal moment, founders are contemplating multiple paths:

  • Considering an Exit: Is it premature to exit, or is this the opportune time?

  • Partial Share Sale: Could selling a portion of my shares offer the financial relief I need to enjoy personal milestones, like purchasing a home?

  • Pursuing Further Investment: Should we engage in a Series B round to escalate growth, despite potentially lower valuations and increased pressures?

  • Exploring Acquisitions: Is acquiring another company the boost we need, or would it distract from our core mission?

Navigating these options can feel isolating, but it doesn't have to be. Many founders wonder if there's a way to sustainably grow their business, enjoy the journey, and still look forward to a financially rewarding exit.

This is why HighMark was founded.

We respect the roles that venture capital and private equity play in the entrepreneurial ecosystem. These avenues offer valuable resources and have been pivotal in the success stories of numerous companies. However, we also recognize that they may not be the right fit for everyone. HighMark offers a different approach, one that ensures financial security without the pressure to fit a predefined mold. We collaborate with founders to support their growth on their terms, aiming for a significant secondary exit as part of a larger, thriving group.

With HighMark, you're not just another portfolio company; you're a partner in a journey tailored to your unique goals and vision. You don’t just survive; you thrive, with the freedom to focus on what you do best—innovating and leading your business towards a sustainable, profitable future.

If you're seeking a path that aligns growth with personal well-being and strategic autonomy, let's talk about how HighMark can make your next step your best step.
